Krok Odds vs PuntersEdge · Australia

Krok Odds vs PuntersEdge for Australian racing data.

Krok Odds is the closest Australian rival: an A$49-a-month API with 50,000 credits, tote pools, Racing.com sectionals, Betfair BSP in its results and a 99.9% SLA, behind a betting-tools product. PuntersEdge is a data API only: a measured fixed-odds panel of 14 Australian bookmakers on every race, a permanent price-path archive, New Zealand racing, a free tier that reads the same data as paid, and an MCP server. Where Krok is stronger this page says so.

Which should you choose?

Choose Krok Odds if…

You want tote pool totals, Betfair BSP beside results, Racing.com sectionals, a contractual SLA, or a push stream — Krok publishes all five and PuntersEdge does not. You also get their arb and +EV tooling in the same subscription.

Choose PuntersEdge if…

You want the deepest fixed-odds panel on every Australian and New Zealand race, re-read every 8–17 s rather than served from a 60-second cache, a permanent change-level price-path archive you can load straight into pandas, a free tier that returns live data, and the API as MCP tools. You are building your own product, not renting theirs.

FAQ

Is Krok Odds cheaper than PuntersEdge?
Krok's API is A$49 a month for 50,000 credits. PuntersEdge Standard is A$29 for 75,000 and Plus is A$49 for 140,000. Credit costs per call differ between the two, so compare on your own call mix; every PuntersEdge cost is on the pricing page, read from the API's own source.
Does PuntersEdge have tote or BSP data?
No pool totals and no exchange prices. /v1/racing/best-odds carries a tote price where a bookmaker quotes one. Betfair Exchange is ingested for internal reference and withheld from customers pending a data licence. Krok publishes both, and if either is central to your product that decides it.
How do the bookmaker panels compare?
Krok's home page says "140+ Australian bookmaker brands", which counts white-label brands riding shared platforms; its API sign-in page says "12+ AU books". PuntersEdge publishes a measured panel instead: 14 Australian books served over a trailing window, BetRight, BetDeluxe, BetGold, BoostBet, TAB, Betr, PointsBet, TABtouch, Sportsbet, Palmerbet, Unibet, NextBet (formerly PlayUp), Ladbrokes and Neds, with a median of 14 books on each race, recomputed every half hour at /coverage-report.json. Count what a race actually carries, on both.
Which has the better historical archive?
Different shapes. Krok's FAQ says settled results and odds history go back to January 2024, with per-book odds snapshots at about five-minute granularity that are roughly two weeks deep and growing; archive calls cost 5 credits and bulk pulls 25. PuntersEdge stores every price change rather than samples, keeps the closing line and full price path of every race permanently from 17 August 2026, and exports as CSV or Parquet on Plus and above; Standard reads a rolling 90-day window.
Which is fresher?
Krok's API FAQ says live endpoints are cached for 60 seconds and racing meetings refresh every 120 seconds, so a caller is typically within a minute of the live market. Racing polling is per book and it is not uniform. Measured over the trailing 7 days to 2026-10-01 through the 10:00–21:00 AEST card, the median age of a connector's last successful read is 8–17s for fourteen of the fourteen served books. There is no single racing poll interval to quote: the slowest served book is 2x the fastest, so any blanket figure is wrong for a named book. Every quote carries its own age_seconds — that is the number to gate on. PuntersEdge next-to-go responses are cached for up to 65 seconds and carry cached and cache_age_seconds so you can see it; /v1/racing/changes is never cached and returns only what moved since your last call. Neither pushes price moves to you: Krok streams opportunities over server-sent events, PuntersEdge does not stream yet.
Does either cover New Zealand?
Both list NZ. PuntersEdge measures it: 12 books quoting NZ thoroughbred and harness races, median 12 per race, and no NZ greyhounds. Krok's racing board lists AU, NZ and UK-IE meetings; PuntersEdge has no UK or Irish racing.
Can I use both?
Yes: one provider for tote and exchange context, PuntersEdge for the fixed-odds panel and price paths. PuntersEdge allows it on every plan; check Krok's terms for combining their data with another feed.
