How Our AFL Tips Work

What the Model Looks at Each Round
Current Form Over Last 5 Games
Form is the most important short-term predictor. Win rate and score differential over the last 5 games captures momentum — teams on genuine winning runs systematically outperform their season average. Cold teams hitting a warm patch of fixtures is a key value opportunity.
Home Ground Advantage
AFL home advantage is real and venue-specific. The Gabba in Brisbane, GMHBA in Geelong, and Optus Stadium in Perth all produce dramatically stronger home-team win rates than the MCG or Marvel Stadium. Our model uses venue-specific home advantage weighting — not a blanket coefficient.
Travel and Schedule
Interstate travel, particularly east-west (Sydney/Melbourne to Perth) reduces performance measurably. Teams playing a Tuesday interstate game followed by a Sunday home game are in a different physical position to teams with a standard 7-day break. The model flags heavy travel games and adjusts accordingly.
Injury Impact
Key position players matter more in AFL than almost any other sport. Losing a first-choice ruckman or genuine superstar midfielder can shift the market by 15-20 points. We update our model with confirmed team selections and injury reports before releasing tips each week.
Head-to-Head at This Venue
Some matchups are structurally one-sided at specific grounds — independent of current form. Historical H2H at the exact venue is a meaningful predictor, particularly where one team has a structural advantage (playing style, physical attributes suited to the ground).

The best prices for AFL games are typically available Tuesday to Thursday, when the market has opened but before the weight of casual public money moves it closer to kickoff.
